The Grant Generals will head out to face off against the Cleveland Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grant is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
While Grant's victory against Franklin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Generals narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Quakers 9-8. That's two games straight that the Generals have won by just one run.
Hazel Heron made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over ten innings while giving up six earned runs off ten hits. Heron was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nora DuLong was a standout: she went 2-for-6 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Anya Rumage was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Cleveland ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Roosevelt 5-4.
Like Grant, Cleveland also got a great game from a two-way player: Jillian Lee. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over eight innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Lee has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cleveland got a big performance out of Clara Waldron, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Another player making a difference was Vivian Schroedel, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Cleveland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Cleveland's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-12. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Grant, their record now sits at 8-11.
