Leading Covington-Douglas to victory were Derrek Daugherty and Ford Smith. Daugherty scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, while Smith scored 24 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least 25% of Covington-Douglas' points. Miguel Tarango was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Covington-Douglas and bumps their season record up to 4-5. As for Varsity Opponent, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 205-752-8.
Covington-Douglas will square off against Deer Creek-Lamont at TBD on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Deer Creek-Lamont is ranked 277th, while Covington-Douglas is ranked 267th). Varsity Opponent will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Sweeny at 12:30 p.m. on January 2nd. Hopefully Sweeny focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
