6A District 1 recap September 17, 2013
Escambia's Danikeei Hollowell rumbled for the longest rushing play in 6A District 1 this season in his game against Rutherford last week. Hollowell's team beat the Rams as he sprinted for 67 yards on the play and finished with 446 in all.
Washington took down Lake Area New Tech 51-18 last week, the largest margin of any game. Terrance Myles threw for 101 yards and ran for 102 yards in the win.
Myles put up the best numbers in passing as the Wildcats beat Lake Area New Tech. Myles' favorite target this week was Jadon Jones, who caught 3 passes for 45 yards.
Kenneth Burroughs was the best receiver in the league this week as Pine Forest lost to Niceville. Burroughs racked up 3 receptions for 55 yards.
Hollowell was the most successful running back in the league this week. Gerald Bright also contributed to the rushing game with 209 yards on the ground.
Hollowell was a beast in the backfield as Escambia defeated Rutherford.
Hollowell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Willie Spears' team bested the Rams.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Jones. The Washington star has 6 catches for 168 yards.
The Gators' Hollowell is a mere 91 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Hollowell has rushed for 909 yards on 64 carries so far this year.
Next week's game between Pace and Washington will feature a good passing match up as Daniel Smyers will test his arm against Eric Cook's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in 6A District 1 this week will be when Pine Forest takes on Escambia. Jerry Pollard's team is in third place, while the Gators are in first place.
Escambia made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,403 from 1,481. The improvement came about via a 70-54 victory over Rutherford last week.
