Edgewood and Cascade are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will face off against the Cadets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Edgewood comes in on four and Cascade on eight.
Edgewood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Northview.
ALLY BLAND spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on ELLA SPROUL, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 games. Another player making a difference was MADI BLAND, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Cascade never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Indianapolis Washington with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cadets, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Lacie Godby made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Godby was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Grace Parks was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Caitlin Gryszowka was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Cascade always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .840. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Edgewood's win bumped their record up to 26-4. As for Cascade, their victory bumped their record up to 24-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Edgewood hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Cascade struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
