After a string of four wins, the Doherty Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pine Creek. While losing is never fun, Doherty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Eagles are ranked sixth).
Loss or not, Doherty got some senior leadership from Rachel Stewart and Tahlaya Biglow. Stewart scored 11 points along with five rebounds, while Biglow. scored ten points along with two steals.
Pine Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alli Dreessen out in front who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dreessen has scored all season. Brooklyn Stewart was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Doherty's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-9. As for Pine Creek, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Doherty and the Lancers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Liberty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday. As for Pine Creek, they will head out on the road to take on the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fountain-Fort Carson is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
