Even though the Mark Twain Tigers scored an imposing 61 points on Friday, the Clopton Hawks still came out on top. Clopton took their contest against Mark Twain 73-61. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Clopton also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Mark Twain lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Quin Eckler, who scored 16 points along with six assists and four steals. Eckler is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jack Dotson, who scored 15 points.
Even though they lost, Mark Twain were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Clopton's win bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Mark Twain, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clopton will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on North Callaway at 6:00 p.m. on January 19, 2024. As for Mark Twain, they will head out on the road to face off against Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
