Greene Central hasn't had much luck against North Pitt recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Greene Central Rams will look to defend their home court against the North Pitt Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Friday, Greene Central didn't have quite enough to beat Farmville Central and fell 47-45. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The match pitted two dominant forwards against one another in An'Nysha Wooten and Madison Denham. Denham had a great game and dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds. Meanwhile, Wooten was balling out in the loss, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 16 boards.
Meanwhile, North Pitt came up short against West Craven on Friday, falling 53-28. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while the Eagles are ranked 117th).
Greene Central will have to keep a close watch on Zihanna Lightfoot and Khamoni Heath, a pair of players who had a big impact on North Pitt's prior game. Lightfoot dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 rebounds, while Heath posted seven points. Lightfoot has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more boards the last 11 times she's played.
North Pitt has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Greene Central, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Greene Central has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like North Pitt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Greene Central skirted past North Pitt 49-46 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Lightfoot, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 17 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Greene Central still be able to contain Lightfoot? There's only one way to find out.
