While the Logan Chieftains couldn't quite beat the Jackson Ironman/Ironladies on Thursday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 21-point defeat they were dealt last Tuesday. Logan fell just short of Jackson by a score of 45-43. While losing is never fun, Logan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Jackson is ranked 70th).
Makenzie Daubenmire and Josie Sigler certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Daubenmire scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three blocks, while Sigler scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Hinton 2027, who scored two points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Logan were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson only racked up two assists.
Jackson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from T.j. Carpenter, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Carpenter has scored at least a third of Jackson's points. Another player making a difference was Mattie Walburn, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Logan dropped their record down to 6-13 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Jackson, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-2.
Logan will be playing at home against Newark at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Logan is facing Newark at the right time seeing as Newark is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Jackson, they will head out on the road to take on Chillicothe at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Jackson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday.
