Evergreen and Green Mountain are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Cougars will take on the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Evergreen is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 20-3 margin over Wheat Ridge on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Farmers: they've now won eight in a row.
Evergreen got a massive performance out of Jack Berendes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one triple. Brody March was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Green Mountain had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Kadets with a sharp 11-3 win. The contest marked the Rams' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Demetreus Padilla and Simon Lunsford were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Padilla pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lunsford pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, Padilla posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. At bat, Padilla scored two runs while going 4-for-5, while Lunsford went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Hudson Burke was incredible, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was DD Lopez, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Green Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Evergreen's record now sits at 7-3-1. As for Green Mountain, their record is now an identical 7-3-1.
Evergreen came out on top in a nail-biter against Green Mountain in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
