The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Springville Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maple Mountain has given up an average of 36.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Maple Mountain faced off against Timpview on Friday. The Golden Eagles lost 44-20 to the Thunderbirds. The Golden Eagles haven't had much luck with the Thunderbirds recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Maple Mountain got top-tier performance from Brooks Ross, who picked up 139 receiving yards and one TD. Kyren Jones made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
While Maple Mountain came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Timpview: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 46.7%. The team can thank Tei Mauga for the heroic effort on defense: he. That defensive display was nothing new: Maple Mountain has limited their opponent to a lower and lower completion percentage in three consecutive games.

Maple Mountain didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Jones led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Kael Anderson is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Jones got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springville). They blew past Payson, posting a 54-6 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Red Devils' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Utah football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Lions are ranked 86th).
Springville's win came from a few key players Maple Mountain will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tua Naufahu, who rushed for 66 yards and one score, and also picked up 46 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 46 receiving yards gave him a new career-high. Sioasi Toki was another key player, rushing for 79 yards and a pair of TDs.
Springville's defense made their presence known, laying out Trevyn Wall. three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Naufahu, Tuiono Valeti, and Treyton Harris, who each picked up one sack apiece. Zachary Henderson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The victory made it two in a row for Springville and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points over those games. As for Maple Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Everything came up roses for Maple Mountain against Springville in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 41-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
