ESTERO, Fla. - A big 35-point second quarter helped carry the Wildcats to a 49-0 victory over Cypress Lake (Fort Myers, Fla.) on Saturday.
Estero scored on a touchdown run by
Ricky Lopez, a
Eric McFadden touchdown run, a touchdown run by
Evan Campbell, a McFadden touchdown run and a defensive touchdown in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Christian Phillips to Lopez in the first quarter, EHS led 42-0 at the half.
The Wildcats expanded their lead to 49 points entering the fourth quarter. Estero's lone score in the quarter came on a McFadden touchdown run.
Lopez stood out for EHS in the win. The senior wide receiver ran for one touchdown, caught one touchdown and kicked seven extra points. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game the Wildcats had allowed 25.5 points per game this year. Estero held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Panthers below the 3.8 points it had been averaging per game.
A 42-21 Estero victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
With the win the Wildcats extended their winning streak to three games.
Estero (5-2) goes up against Mariner in a 5A District 11 game matchup next week, while Cypress Lake (0-9) locks horns with East Lee County also in a 5A District 11 game.
