The Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points) and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged Penfield out 66-64. The win was all the more spectacular given Rush-Henrietta's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Penfield is ranked 18th).
Leading Rush-Henrietta to victory were Jalen Taggart and Avery Council. Taggart scored 22 points, while Council scored 19 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Council is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Graylin Strong, who scored eight points along with two blocks.
Rush-Henrietta's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Penfield, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-1.
Rush-Henrietta will head out on the road to square off against Victor at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Penfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against School of the Arts at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Penfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully School of the Arts likes a good challenge.
