The Belleview Christian Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Flatirons Academy Bison at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Belleview Christian has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while the Bison will arrive with nine straight wins.
Belleview Christian struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Longhorns had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Belleview Christian was outmatched by the Longhorns at home and fell 51-19. Belleview Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-9.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Harjas Thiara, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivy Esch, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Belleview Christian struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Flatirons Academy strolled past the Eagles with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 40-21. Flatirons Academy pushed the score to 36-15 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
Flatirons Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emily Dehaan, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Brylin Gomer was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 rebounds and ten blocks.
Belleview Christian's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Flatirons Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Belleview Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Flatirons Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Belleview Christian was taken down by the Bison 66-6 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Belleview Christian, Kenlee Durrill (who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
