The Hayden Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 12th straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 62-41 walloping at the hands of Washburn Rural. Hayden has not had much luck with Washburn Rural recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Leading Washburn Rural to victory were Griffin Durst and John Hoytal. Durst scored 17 points along with six rebounds, while Hoytal scored 14 points along with two steals. Durst hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was JC Heim, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Hayden's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Washburn Rural, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hayden will square off against Junction City/St. Xavier on Tuesday. Junction City/St. Xavier's defense has only allowed 22 points per game this season, so Hayden's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Washburn Rural, they will head out on the road to face off against Topeka at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Washburn Rural is facing Topeka at the right time seeing as Topeka is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
