It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Moapa Valley Pirates ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against GV Christian by a score of 76-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Mason Wheeler was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Bryson Walker was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Several Guardians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nick Madsen, who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Terrance Turner, who scored 15 points along with eight assists and two steals.
Moapa Valley's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10-1. As for GV Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moapa Valley will challenge Boulder City at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Boulder City will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. GV Christian will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against White Pine at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully White Pine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Wednesday.
