The biggest upset of the week belonged to Horizon, who took down 477th ranked Horizon, 20-12. Emilio Noriega threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 33 yards in the win.
Hanks moved up to 504 from 573 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 2. The Knights climbed the ranks as a result of beating the Scorpions 20-12.
FERNIE MARQUEZ was the best wideout in the league this week as Eastlake lost to Canutillo. MARQUEZ racked up six receptions for 102 yards.
Jose Alvarez was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 155 yards as the Eagles lost to the Eagles. Teammate Joseph Arteaga added to the ground attack by rushing for 108 yards.
DAVID ARMENDARIZ provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Eastlake fell to Canutillo. He completed 12 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 122 yards.
KENDRICK GOINS made the biggest impact on defense this week as Parkland beat San Elizario. The junior forced one fumble and recorded one fumble.
6-foot-1 quarterback Noriega of Hanks is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1651. He has also thrown 17 touchdowns. On the ground, Scott Brooks' team's Alvarez has rushed for 954 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Hilario Soto. The Horizon star has 25 catches for 593 yards.
The Eagles' Alvarez needs only 46 yards against Ysleta next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Horizon takes on the Falcons. David Telas' team is in second place, while Eastlake is in sixth place.
Del Valle extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Indians, 31-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Conquistadores.
