Softball Recap: Marymount Takes a Loss

Marymount had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-5 to make it five. They lost 25-3 to the Flintridge Sacred Heart Tologs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sailors of the 13-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Alianna Hong was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

As for Flintridge Sacred Heart, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

On Flintridge Sacred Heart's side, Juliette Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

In other batting news, Gianna Candelora was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ena Ramsey, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Looking ahead, Marymount will take on Immaculate Heart at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sailors are facing the Pandas at the right time seeing as the Pandas are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Flintridge Sacred Heart, they will challenge Bishop Alemany at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
