On Monday, the Proviso East Pirates's game was all tied up 27-27 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 victory over Proviso West. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Proviso East also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Proviso East found their leader in underclassman Zulema Montoya, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Amyiah Dunbar was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Proviso East's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-13. As for Proviso West, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Proviso East will square off against Berwyn/Cicero Morton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Proviso West, they will head out on the road to face off against Oak Park-River Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
