Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Morningside Academy

Morningside Academy won against Calvary Chapel Academy last Friday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Morningside Academy Eagles were the clear victor by an 11-3 margin over the Lincoln Park Academy Greyhounds. The Eagles' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Leigha Race was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four).

In other batting news, Gabbriella Oliver was a standout: she scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Oliver is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's stole at least two every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Madison LeVasseur, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Morningside Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Morningside Academy's record is now 3-0. As for Lincoln Park Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morningside Academy will take on Atlantic Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lincoln Park Academy, they will challenge Port St. Lucie at 4:00 p.m. on March 4th.
