Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Nolan Groves of
Orono (Long Lake) is the 2024-25 Minnesota MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-5 senior guard led the Spartans to a 24-8 record and the Class 3A state semifinals.
For the season, Groves averaged 34.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.7 steals. He knocked down 68 3-pointers and had over 1,000 points during his senior campaign alone.
In a 102-98 victory over St. Louis Park on Feb. 4, Groves exploded for a career-high 57 points to go along with 11 rebounds and eight assists. He scored 40 or more points 10 times this season.
Groves – who committed to Ivy League champion Yale last summer – piled up 2,345 points over the last three seasons, averaging 24.9 points per contest during that span.
