New Ulm Cathedral has gone 8-2 against Minnesota Valley Lutheran recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Greyhounds will host the Chargers at 5:00 p.m. New Ulm Cathedral will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Four must be New Ulm Cathedral's lucky number: they beat Springfield with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Greyhounds never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.
Not much got past Jake Finstad, who gave up just three hits to keep Springfield off the board.
At the plate, Elliot Schabert was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
New Ulm Cathedral hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Minnesota Valley Lutheran had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Sleepy Eye by a score of 8-4 on Friday. The game was the first time the Chargers have beaten the Indians on their field since May 14, 2019.
Kaden Peterson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Minnesota Valley Lutheran got a big performance out of Rogan Scriver, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was Scriver's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Blake Sexton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
New Ulm Cathedral pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Minnesota Valley Lutheran, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
New Ulm Cathedral skirted past Minnesota Valley Lutheran 4-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
