Wauseon and Hilltop are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Indians will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cadets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Wauseon has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wauseon couldn't beat Patrick Henry on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the second inning. The Indians came up short against the Patriots, falling 19-9.
Kyler Bronson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Russell, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hilltop). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Gorham Fayette a 30-0 shutout on Thursday. The Cadets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by seven runs or more this season.
Giada Rising made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Hilltop got a massive performance out of Sophia Crossgrove, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kelsy Connolly, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs and four RBI.
Hilltop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Wauseon's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Hilltop, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Wauseon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Hilltop struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wauseon couldn't quite get it done against Hilltop in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
