The Wayne Pioneers were the 64-39 winner over the Liberty Mountaineers when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Wayne fell just short of Liberty by a score of 48-45.
Wayne's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Meddings, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Adkins, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds.
Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Liberty, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wayne will take on Logan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty, they will head out on the road to face off against Lewis County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Lewis County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
