The Perry-Lecompton Kaws will venture away from home to challenge the Jefferson West Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Things were looking good for Perry-Lecompton after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 10-6 to Hiawatha.
Paxton Damme was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Meaa Allen, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Jefferson West came out on top against Sabetha on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Tigers walked away with a 9-5 win over the Bluejays.
Harriet Dean made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Ryleigh Zitek was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Joslynn Sutton also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Jefferson West's record now sits at 14-2. As for Perry-Lecompton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Perry-Lecompton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Jefferson West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Perry-Lecompton took their victory against Jefferson West when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Kaws repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
