Shane Dunlap was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Steven Chapman, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Fitzgerald hadn't done well against Center Line recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Spartans blew past the Panthers 8-1. Considering the Spartans have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Clawson, Fitzgerald also got a great game from a two-way player: Thomas Baranski. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Baranski was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Baranski wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leiland McCallep, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Jaiden Asocar was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Fitzgerald is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Clawson, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Clawson took their win against Fitzgerald in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
