Lowell and Kankakee Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will head out to take on the Kougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Lowell will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Lowell had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Benton Central on Saturday. The Red Devils put the hurt on the Bison with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Camden Mikulich made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Lowell let Derek Rice and Mason Umfleet run wild. Rice went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Umfleet went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Rice has posted since back in April. Ethan Domke also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Lowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kankakee Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Rensselaer Central on Friday. The Kougars haven't had any issues with the Bombers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Owen Uylaki spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kankakee Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-8 otherwise.
At the plate, Will Chestnut was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Keaton Wagner, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
The win got Kankakee Valley back to even at 9-9. As for Lowell, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Lowell came up short against Kankakee Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, falling 6-2. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
