After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Palisades, the Marvin Ridge Mavericks were happy to have found some success on Friday. They took down Sun Valley 71-55. Given Marvin Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Sun Valley is ranked 394th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nathan Tavares, who scored 24 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Sumpter, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds.
Marvin Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Sun Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.
