After a string of four wins, the Wray Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Dayspring Christian Academy by a score of 52-50. Wray found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 20 to 12 on offense.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sharon Greek, who scored 20 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Greek has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Danyelle Davis, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wray were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Dayspring Christian Academy was led to victory by Faith Hayward and Eboselulu Omofoma. Hayward scored 19 points along with four steals, while Omofoma dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Hayward has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Lizzy Casey was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Wray's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Dayspring Christian Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wray will take on the Fightin' Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Haxtun will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Eagles are ranked 98th). As for Dayspring Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Golddiggers at 5:00 p.m.
