Skyview is 7-1 against Gateway since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field against the Olympians at 4:00 p.m. Skyview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Skyview fell victim to Montbello and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Wolverines' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Skyview saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Diego Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Andrew Casillas also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gateway). They were the clear victors by a 26-3 margin over Jefferson on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Olympians sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Westin Rayburn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rayburn was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Gateway: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Kalai Bentosino was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Gateway's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jakob Petersen, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
Gateway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2025.
Skyview's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Skyview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gateway struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
