Baseball Recap: Stafford Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Stafford won the last time they faced Fort Bend Willowridge and things went their way on Thursday too. The Spartans put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-4 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Maxwell Frels made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Stafford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rhueben Towne, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Zachary Reichling was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Stafford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Stafford, bringing their record up to 13-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Fort Bend Willowridge, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

As of now, neither Stafford nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
