The Germantown Warhawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Marquette University Hilltoppers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Germantown's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Marquette University's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Germantown beat West Allis Hale 9-4. The Warhawks haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Ben Groeschl looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Germantown got a massive performance out of Grady Cheever, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Cheever has posted since back in May of 2024. Jon Murkowski was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Germantown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Allis Hale only posted a batting average of .259.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Marquette University ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out St. Thomas More 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hilltoppers have posted since April 4th.
Germantown's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Marquette University, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Germantown skirted past Marquette University 9-7 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warhawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
