Baseball Recap: Bloomfield Comes Up Short

Bloomfield extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They fell 9-6 to the North Central Thunderbirds. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunderbirds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Dillon Warnick was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Bloomfield is 3-1 when Warnick posts three or more RBI, but 2-8 otherwise. Aiden Scott was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

As for North Central, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8. The game was the first time they have beaten Bloomfield on their field since May 27, 2019.

On North Central's side, Hayden Schultz was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. Schultz has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Greydyn Walters was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-5. Those home runs were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Bays, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Bloomfield will face off against Loogootee at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for North Central, they will take on South Vermillion at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
