The Perry Pumas will be playing at home against the Mountain Pointe Pride at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Perry is ranked 14th, while Mountain Pointe is ranked 34th).
Despite a strong season so far, Perry has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They took a 38-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of Basha on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Perry in their matchups with Basha: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Perry got a solid performance out of Don Tinsley, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Mountain Pointe beat Desert Vista 21-16 on Friday. The win was just what Mountain Pointe needed coming off of a 44-7 defeat in their prior matchup.
A'Lysha "Zeke" Rodriguez had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Rodriguez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. Another player making a difference was Christian Clark, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Basha's victory bumped their season record to 9-1 while Perry's loss dropped theirs to 7-3.
Perry barely slipped by Mountain Pointe in their previous meeting back in September of 2021, winning 21-20. Does Perry have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mountain Pointe turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
