The Gainesville Red Elephants lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Monday was a bit more commanding. They were outmatched by Marietta on the road and fell 71-25. Gainesville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-14.
Leading Marietta to victory were Kayla Day and Kyann Senior. Day almost dropped a triple-double on 18 points, nine assists, and ten steals, while Senior dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Senior has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Frances Storey, who scored nine points along with seven steals.
Gainesville has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Marietta, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gainesville will take on Jackson County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Jackson County and four for Gainesville. Marietta on the road again on Tuesday and play against North Paulding at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. North Paulding will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
