The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mountain Empire, who took down 715th ranked Holtville, 52-6. Willie Wilson ran for 171 yards in the win.
Calipatria extended the longest winning streak in Manzanita this week by beating Vincent Memorial, 16-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
The Vikings' dynamic duo of Steven Drye and David Lucero proved tough for the Red Hawks to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Drye threw for 95 yards and one touchdown and Lucero had 66 yards receiving. Ben Abatti helped Holtville's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.
Spencer George was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 175 yards as Foothills Christian fell to Mountain Empire. Teammate Kyle Moberg added to the ground attack by rushing for 40 yards.
Calipatria's Evan Franklin and Jacob Whannel have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Franklin has thrown for 756 yards this season, while Whannel, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 33 catches for 517 yards. Wilson from Bill Dobson's team leads the league in rushing with 905 yards.
The top two teams in Manzanita will face off this week when first place Calipatria takes on second place Holtville. David Shaw's team defeated the Scots last week, while Keith Smith Jr.'s team fell to the Red Hawks.
Wilson of the Mountain Empire is only 95 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
The Red Hawks moved up to 716 from 747 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Mountain Empire was able to make move up by besting the Vikings 52-6.
