Softball Recap: Gainesville Drops Season-High Score on Buchholz

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gainesville). They blew past the Buchholz Bobcats 11-2 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

McKenna O'Sullivan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. O'Sullivan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madisyn Gillins, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3. Braylin Cook was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Gainesville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Buchholz and nudges their season record down to 7-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gainesville will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Forest at 7:00 p.m. on March 26th. As for Buchholz, they will challenge Tampa Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Tampa Catholic will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Buchholz surely won't give up without a fight.
