With a playoff win on the line, King City rose to the challenge on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Independence 76ers as they made off with a 16-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Alizah Carrillo, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Independence off the board.
On the hitting side, King City got a massive performance out of Janesa Lopez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one run. Those five RBI gave Lopez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Romero, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
King City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Independence only posted an OBP of .250.
The win made it two in a row for King City and bumps their season record up to 17-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Independence, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-5.
As of now, neither King City nor the 76ers have any future games scheduled.
