On Saturday, Glendale Prep Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Odyssey Institute, taking the game 63-53. Given Glendale Prep Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Odyssey Institute is ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Senna Smith, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. She hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Moore, who scored six points.
Odyssey Institute's loss came despite strong showings from Shelby Hunt and Samara Grubbs. Hunt scored ten points along with five rebounds and three blocks, while Grubbs scored 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her.
The win makes it two in a row for Glendale Prep Academy and bumps their season record up to 12-2. As for Odyssey Institute, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Glendale Prep Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Phoenix Country Day at 7:20 p.m. on January 6th. Phoenix Country Day will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Odyssey Institute and Yuma Catholic will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Yuma Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Saturday.
