Even though the Kankakee Valley Kougars have not done well against the Morgan Township Cherokees recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Kankakee Valley sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-55 win over Morgan Township. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kankakee Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Camden Webster, who scored 19 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Webster has scored at least 25% of Kankakee Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Brady Sampson, who scored 15 points along with 9 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Morgan Township lost, one person who can't be blamed is Keagen Holder. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals. The game was Holder's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Grieger, who scored 9 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Kankakee Valley and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Morgan Township, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kankakee Valley will square off against Valparaiso at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Valparaiso's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Morgan Township, they will head out on the road to face off against Tippecanoe Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Tippecanoe Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Saturday.
