The Provo Bulldogs will head out to take on the Springville Red Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Provo has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Springville will arrive with three straight victories.
On Tuesday, Provo didn't have quite enough to beat Payson and fell 3-2.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Provo sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-14, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-11.
The losing side was boosted by Taylor Liechty, who had 12 digs and three aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Jo, who had 16 assists and four digs.
Meanwhile, Springville hadn't done well against Spanish Fork recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Red Devils came out on top against the Dons by a score of 3-1.
Springville was especially dominant in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-14, 22-25, 25-20.
Provo's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Springville, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Provo has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Springville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Provo came up short against Springville in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 3-1. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
