Sierra Vista is 1-6 against Covina since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Sierra Vista Dons will head out on the road to face off against the Covina Colts at 6:30 p.m. Sierra Vista will be strutting in after a win while Covina will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Pioneer scored an imposing 65 points on Friday, Sierra Vista still came out on top. Sierra Vista sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 68-65 victory over Pioneer. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Sierra Vista.
Sierra Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aaron Buna led the charge by scoring 22 points along with 3 steals. Buna is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of David Orozco, who scored 20 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Covina fought the good fight in their overtime match against Calvary Baptist on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Cougars 75-70. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Sierra Vista is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Covina, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-3.
Things could have been worse for Sierra Vista, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-43 loss to Covina in their previous meeting back in November. Can Sierra Vista avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
