The Wood River Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Cross County Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wood River has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Saturday, Wood River took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 70-30 victory over Gibbon. With Wood River ahead 34-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Cross County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 27 points or more this season. They breezed by Centura at home to the tune of 62-35. Given Cross County's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Centura is ranked 244th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tanner Hollinger and Ashton Seim were among the main playmakers for Cross County as the former dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Seim pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Langdon Arbuck, who scored nine points.
Wood River's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Cross County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Wood River didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Cross County in their previous matchup back in December of 2017, but they still walked away with a 68-62 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wood River since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
