West Jordan scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Cottonwood, 21-12. At the time, the Colts was ranked 22nd in the state, while the Jaguars was 51st.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to West Jordan, who took down 22nd ranked Cottonwood, 21-12.
Austin Kafentzis and Austin Kafentzis gave Jordan a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Kafentzis threw for 363 yards and eight touchdowns, while Kafentzis ran for 83 yards. Teammate Clay Moss added to the ground attack by rushing for 15 yards.
Ammon Barker was the best wideout in 5A Region 3 this week as Alta beat Brighton. Barker tallied four receptions for 126 yards. Harrison Handley helped Alta's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 85 yards.
The Hawks' Chipper Lucero and Barker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Lucero has thrown for 1711 yards this season, while Barker, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 32 catches for 557 yards. The Beetdiggers' Kafentzis leads the league in rushing yards with 914.
Jordan's Kafentzis is a mere 86 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bengals take on Greg Coshaw's team. Brighton is currently in third, while the Colts are in sixth.
Lucero and Barker provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Ryan Bullett's team. The connection went for 85 yards, the longest such play in 5A Region 3 this season.
