5A West recap October 1, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Vilonia, who took down 58th ranked Harrison, 32-29.
Toney Hawkins and Gerrell Williamson provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Shiloh Christian. The longest such play in 5A West this season, the connection resulted in 80 yards.
Daniel Shimer was a force in the backfield as the Saints fell to Morrilton.
Shimer was a passing and rushing force as Shiloh Christian fell to the Devil Dogs. He completed 13 passes for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 214 yards. Shimer's key target this week was Adler Goode, who caught 5 passes for 65 yards.
Tyler Bush was a key player and the best on defense this week as Greenbrier defeated Huntsville. He recorded 2 fumbles.
Brock Humphrey threw for 316 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 17-27 with 0 interception.
Humphrey put up the best numbers through the air as the Goblins lost to the Eagles. Humphrey's favorite target this week was Silas Huskey, who caught 7 passes for 131 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Will Drewry of the Panthers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,322. He has also thrown 16 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Rayshod Criswell. The Morrilton star has 33 catches for 449 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Morrilton's Criswell goes up against Alma's Alex Burris.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Cody McNabb's team takes on the Airedales. As it stands, the Devil Dogs are in first, while Alma is in fourth.
Vilonia moved up to 92 from 126 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Jim Stanley's team climbed the ranks as a result of beating Harrison 32-29.
