Basketball Recap: Gospel Light Christian's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

After a string of five wins, Gospel Light Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 47-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Calvary Christian Cougar. Gospel Light Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Calvary Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2019.

When it comes to explaining why Gospel Light Christian lost, don't look at Noelle Nelson. Despite the final result, she went 9 for 17 on her way to 18 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Nelson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Miller, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Gospel Light Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Gospel Light Christian's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-2. As for Calvary Christian, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

After both having extra time off, Gospel Light Christian and Burlington Christian Academy will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 2:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025. As for Calvary Christian, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Surry HomeSchool at 5:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
