Basketball Game Preview: West Jefferson Roughriders vs. Greenon Knights

The West Jefferson Roughriders will head out to face off against the Greenon Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

West Jefferson is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Ridgemont on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. West Jefferson was dealt a 68-37 loss at the hands of Ridgemont. While losing is never fun, the Roughriders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 564th, while the Golden Gophers are ranked 244th).

Despite their defeat, West Jefferson saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Austin Buescher, who posted 12 points and seven blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Buescher is crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Colton Kincade, who earned six points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, West Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Greenon had to suffer through a 72-45 loss at the hands of Northwestern.

West Jefferson now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Greenon, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

West Jefferson beat Greenon 46-35 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Jefferson since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
