Baseball Game Preview: California Grizzlies vs. Dougherty Valley Wildcats

California is 8-2 against Dougherty Valley since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will head out to square off against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. The last four games California has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times California and Monte Vista had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Grizzlies beat the Mustangs on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.

Ryken Redondo looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has become a key player for California: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, California saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Nick Hubbard was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Dougherty Valley lost 11-1 to Amador Valley last Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Dons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

California now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Dougherty Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.

Dougherty Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. California has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dougherty Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will California keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?

California skirted past Dougherty Valley 2-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
