The Mercy Jaguars suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They were outmatched by Owensboro Catholic at home and fell 74-37. While losing is never fun, Mercy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Owensboro Catholic is ranked 12th).
Owensboro Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karmin Riley, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Riley has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jenna Krampe, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Mercy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Owensboro Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-3.
Mercy's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Ballard at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Owensboro Catholic, they will square off against Bethlehem at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bethlehem is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
