Hatch Valley is 0-10 against Cobre since April of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. The Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Indians at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Saturday, Hatch Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Hot Springs and fell 16-14.
ALAN RUIZ and MIGUEL MARQUEZ did some serious damage despite the final result: RUIZ got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while MARQUEZ went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. NATHAN RUIZ also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Cobre entered their tilt with Socorro on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Warriors 21-2. Considering the Indians have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Cameron Ortiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Ezekiel Rodriguez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jesus Lopez, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aaron Harrington, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Cobre was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Cobre's record is now 15-7. As for Hatch Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Hatch Valley might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Cobre in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
