III Southern recap November 5, 2013
Mountain View Christian added to the longest winning streak in III Southern this week by beating Lincoln County, 38-8. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Saints.
Mountain View Christian took down the Lynx 38-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jacob Duldulao threw for 47 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 78 yards during the win.
Meadows's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jacob Gleason threw for 125 and 2 touchdowns and Matt Biafore had 48 yards receiving. On the ground Bryson Navallo chipped in 130 yards. Rj Haskins helped Meadows' passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 38 yards.
Navallo provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Mustangs topped Needles. Navallo's key target this week was Biafore, who caught 4 passes for 48 yards.
Navallo was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 130 yards on 26 carries as Meadows defeated the Mustangs. Thayne Carlson also contributed to the rushing game with 16 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Gleason and Navallo, Frank DeSantis' team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Gleason leads the league in passing with 921 yards, while Navallo has rushed for 1,159 yards this season. Calvary Chapel Christian's Chris Basilio leads the league in receiving yards with 680 on 32 catches.
Mike Valenzuela's team's Matthew Larson is a mere 33 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 136 carries Larson has put up 967 yards this year.
As it stands, the Mustangs are in second, while Agassi Prep is in third.
Meadows made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,173 from 11,405. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 23-7 victory over Dave Smith's team last week.
